SURFACE PREPARATION GUIDE

WALLS: NEW SURFACE

CEMENT PLASTER

  1. Ensure plaster is dry (21 days curing for slabs);

  2. Remove all loose material from surface;

  3. Apply one coat of Olympic All-in-one Plaster Primer as a sealer primer and first coat all-in-one.

  4. Apply two coats of a recommended Olympic topcoat (Olympic Natural Elegance for interior, Olympic Rugged Beauty for exterior, Olympic Suburban Bliss for for interior and exterior Olympic Ultimate Shine Enamel).

FACIA BOARDS

  1. Remove all loose material from surface;

  2. Apply one coat of Olympic Universal Undercoat white;

  3. Apply two coats of a recommended Olympic topcoat.

WALLS: PREVIOUSLY PAINTED

GOOD CONDITION – SURFACE PAINTED WITH ENAMEL

  1. Lightly sand glossy surface;

  2. Clean surface with clean water and general purpose cleaning solution;

  3. Apply two coats of Olympic Ultimate Shine Enamel as a finishing coat;

  4. If the topcoat is going to be an acrylic PVA, first apply a uniform coat of Olympic Universal Undercoat white, followed by two coats of a finishing coat e.g. Olympic Natural Elegance for interior and exterior , Olympic Rugged Beauty for interior and exterior or Olympic Suburban Bliss for interior and exterior.

GOOD CONDITION SURFACE PAINTED WITH PVA

  1. Remove all loose material from surface;

  2. Clean surface with clean water and general purpose cleaning solution;

  3. Apply one coat of Olympic Hi-Hiding Contractors PVA or Olympic Master Decorators;

  4. Apply two coats of a recommended Olympic topcoat.

FLAKING / CHALKING

  1. Remove all loose paint with scraper and sand down with an appropriate grit sand paper;

  2. Clean surface with clean water and general purpose cleaning solution:

  3. If the old paint is PVA, apply one coat of Olympic Bonding Liquid;

  4. If the old paint is enamel, apply a uniform coat of Olympic Universal Undercoat white;

  5. Apply two coats of a recommended Olympic topcoat.

CRACKS

  1. Remove all loose material from surface;

  2. Apply Olympic Crack Filler for hairline cracks. Allow to dry. Sand with appropriate grit sand paper;

  3. Apply two coats of a recommended Olympic topcoat.

DAMP

  1. Locate source of dampness and fix. Allow surface to dry;

  2. Brush surface with wire brush and clean walls thoroughly with general purpose cleaning solution;

  3. Apply a damp seal as per the suppliers directions on container:

  4. If the old paint is PVA, apply Olympic Bonding Liquid;

  5. If the old paint is enamel, apply Olympic Universal Undercoat white;

  6. Apply two coats of a recommended Olympic topcoat.

WOOD: NEW SURFACE

  1. Sand wood surface smooth in the direction of the wood grain;

  2. Clean surface with a damp cloth to remove the dust:

  3. For a natural look, apply at least two coats of Olympic Sanding Sealer or a recommended Olympic varnish;

  4. If the topcoat is going to be painted in colour, apply one coat of Olympic Pink Wood Primer followed by two coats of a recommended Olympic topcoat.

WOOD: PREVIOUSLY PAINTED

GOOD CONDITION

  1. Sand wood surface smooth in the direction of the wood grain;

  2. Clean surface with a damp cloth to remove the dust:

  3. For a natural look, apply at least two coats of Olympic Sanding Sealer or a recommended Olympic varnish;

  4. If the topcoat is going to be painted in colour, apply two coats of a recommended Olympic topcoat.

CRACKING

  1. Remove old paint with Olympic Paint Remover;

  2. Fill cracks with an appropriate wood sealer;

  3. Sand wood surface smooth in the direction of the wood grain;

  4. Clean surface with a damp cloth to remove the dust:

  5. For a natural look, apply at least two coats of Olympic Sanding Sealer or a recommended Olympic varnish;

  6. If the topcoat is going to be painted in colour, first apply Olympic Pink Wood Primer before applying two coats of a recommended Olympic topcoat.

FLAKING

  1. Remove old coat with Olympic Paint Remover;

  2. Sand wood surface smooth in the direction of the wood grain;

  3. Clean surface with a damp cloth to remove the dust:

  4. For a natural look, apply at least two coats of Olympic Sanding Sealer or a recommended Olympic varnish;

  5. If the topcoat is going to be painted in colour, first apply Olympic Pink Wood Primer before applying two coats of a recommended Olympic topcoat.

METAL: NEW SURFACE

  1. Using a scourer, clean the new metal surface thoroughly with Olympic Galvanised Iron Cleaning solution. For old rust use Olympic Rust Remover.

  2. For galvanized iron, apply a coat of Olympic Zinc phosphate Primer Green and for other steel apply a coat of Olympic Quick Drying Red Oxide, Olympic Zinc phosphate Primer Green or Olympic Etch Primer;

  3. Apply two coats of a preferred Olympic topcoat from our range of Ultimate Shine, High Gloss Enamel or Quick Drying Enamel.

METAL: PREVIOUSLY PAINTED

GOOD CONDITION

  1. Remove any loose material and clean metal surface thoroughly with a liquid sugar soap solution;

  2. Apply two coats of a preferred Olympic topcoat from our range of Ultimate Shine, High Gloss Enamel or Quick Drying Enamel.

RUST

  1. Using a scourer, first remove rust on the metal surface using rust remover, followed by cleaning the metal surface with a galvanised iron cleaning solution;

  2. Apply a coat of Olympic Zinc Phosphate Primer Green, Q.D Red Oxide Primer or Olympic Etch Primer;

  3. Apply two coats of a preferred Olympic topcoat from our range of Ultimate Shine, High Gloss Enamel or Quick Drying Enamel.

FLAKING

  1. Remove paint using Olympic Paint Remover;

  2. Using a scourer, clean the new metal surface thoroughly with a galvanised iron cleaning solution;

  3. Apply a coat of Olympic Zinc Phosphate Primer Green, Q.D Red Oxide Primer or Olympic Etch Primer;

  4. Apply two coats of a preferred Olympic topcoat from our range of Ultimate Shine, High Gloss Enamel or Quick Drying Enamel.
